Year 9 London Democracy Trip

Re: Year 9 London Democracy Trip, Wednesday 27 – Thursday 28 March 2024

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you and your family had a lovely half-term. As I communicated to you before half-term, please see below an update and reminder regarding the 2024 London Democracy trip. Full details of this trip can be seen in the letter sent prior to half-term.

Hopefully, you have already managed to have a discussion with your child about attending. Tomorrow (Wednesday 1 November) I will be speaking to students in assembly to launch the trip and explain in more detail what it entails and its purpose. If, after the assembly, your child is still interested, you will need to reserve a place on ParentPay.

The reservation system will open at 4pm on Wednesday 1 November. In order to reserve a place, select the trip on ParentPay and check-out as normal. You will not be required to pay an initial deposit at the point of reserving your child’s place. Once your child’s place has been confirmed, the trip will again appear on ParentPay and you will then need to pay a non-refundable deposit of £40 by Friday 10 November to secure your child’s place. Parents of children on the trip will be notified when the payment is open.

Please be aware places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis for 50 students. If and once the trip becomes fully reserved, you will no longer be able to reserve a place. Should the trip be fully reserved, but your child would like to attend, please contact me via email at the end of this letter as I will keep a reserve list. If you reserve a place for child, and they later decide they do not want to attend before paying the deposit, please let me know, so I can offer the place to students on the reserve list.

As I stated in my previous letter, the full price of the trip is £160, including all activities in the programme as well as travel, dinner, accommodation and breakfast and a packed lunch on the Thursday. Students will only be required to bring their own packed lunch for Wednesday, as well as money for food on Thursday evening at the service station.

In order to help spread out the cost, once you have paid the deposit, the remaining balance can be paid in two instalments of £60. Reminders will be sent out to parents via text and/or email near these dates:

Instalment 1: Friday 12 January 2024

Instalment 2: Friday 1 March 2024

Of course, payments can be made at any time before the trip as long as the instalment dates are met. Please note that the instalment dates link to when we must make payments for the trip. Therefore, we are unable to refund any money paid if your child later decides they no longer want to attend the trip for any reason.

If your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, some of this may be able to be used towards the cost of the trip. Please contact the finance office to discuss this with them. They can be contacted on 01579 325718.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that, as with all school trips, for both the safety and enjoyment of other students, we reserve the right to remove a student from the trip if their behaviour in school gives us a cause for concern.

Should you have any further questions about this trip, please do not hesitate to contact me by emailing naird@liskeard.net

Yours sincerely

Mr N Aird
