Liskeard School Supports Children’s Oral Health Through “Smarter Smiles” Programme

We have been delighted to take part in an exciting new Cornwall Council initiative aimed at improving children’s oral health.
Working in partnership with Peninsula Dental, the school has been involved in the “Smarter Smiles” programme, a fantastic initiative designed to help children develop healthy habits and maintain bright smiles for the future.
Students have taken part in a series of fun and engaging lessons focused on how to care for their teeth. As part of the programme, they also received their own dental care packs to use at home, including a toothbrush, toothpaste and a timer. The visiting dental care professionals shared their expertise and made learning about oral health both interactive and memorable.
Activities included brushing large-scale models of teeth and matching sugar quantities to common drinks, helping students to better understand the impact of everyday choices on their dental health.
The programme has been introduced in response to growing concerns about children’s dental health in Cornwall. We are proud to be playing a role in promoting positive change and supporting the wellbeing of its students.
At Liskeard School, there is a strong belief that healthy habits start early. Initiatives such as “Smarter Smiles” provide a valuable opportunity to encourage lifelong positive behaviours while helping students keep their smiles shining bright.
