History Students Explore Dublin

Liskeard Sixth Form History students recently visited Dublin to enhance their understanding of Irish history and culture through a range of educational visits.
The trip included a visit to Kilmainham Gaol, where many leaders of Irish rebellions were imprisoned, giving students a strong insight into Ireland’s struggle for independence. Students also visited the National Museum of Ireland, viewing artefacts that supported their studies, as well as Dublin Castle and the 1798 Rebellion Memorial Park.
Students also experienced Irish culture by attending a live hurling match, where they witnessed the atmosphere and community pride surrounding the traditional sport.
One student said:
I thoroughly enjoyed the Dublin trip, we explored the local areas and got a real feel for the city. We watched a hurling match, the atmosphere in the crowd was a great display of Irish culture and pride. My favourite visits were Kilmainham Gaol, the site where many Irish rebels were held, and the National Museum of Ireland. Seeing the historical artefacts and sites in person helped my understanding of the course, really bringing the history to life.
The trip provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience history beyond the classroom.
