Heads Letter to Parents/Carers - 01.09.23

Dear parents, carers and families,

We are very much looking forward to welcoming students to school next week, and we hope that you have all had a good summer break. We have been planning carefully for a very successful year ahead and are excited to get started. Please see below for some key information and updates before the term begins. Please do not hesitate to contact the school at enquiries@liskeard.net if you have any questions or queries.

Exam results

We are so delighted with the excellent results achieved by students at A Level and GCSE. We are keenly awaiting the final updates from the Department of Education later in the Autumn term – this will allow us to definitively see how well Liskeard students have progressed compared to students in schools around the country. It is already clear that students have made impressive progress, and I am extremely proud of everything that students, families and staff have achieved together. Congratulations to all of our A Level students set to progress onto university courses, education or employment. We are also busy enrolling students into Liskeard Sixth Form – please contact us if you would like any information about Sixth Form provision.

Autumn term start dates

  • Monday 4th September - Staff INSET day, no students attend

  • Tuesday 5th September – Year 7 and Year 12 only attend for induction day

  • Wednesday 6th September – all Year groups attend

School day timings

We are delighted to be able to offer additional teaching this year to Year 11 students to support them to make outstanding progress in English, Maths and Science this year. This means that the school day is extended until 16.15 for Year 11 students on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week this term. This exciting opportunity begins from Wednesday 6th September. Please contact your child’s Head of Year if you have any questions about this.

We have also been thinking very carefully about the timings of the school day, taking into account student and staff feedback. From September onwards, tutor time will be extended each day by five minutes. This will allow more time for students to engage with tutor time activities and teaching and allow enough time for all students to move around the school site to be punctual to their morning lessons. Morning break will be 20 minutes, lunch break will be 40 minutes and the start and finish times of the day remain unchanged.

Uniform

Please look carefully at the letters and social media posts about uniform – we are really keen to support everyone to wear their uniform correctly and contribute to a positive school community ethos. Thank you for supporting your child to meet our high standards.

Yours faithfully,
