Industrial Strike Action

Dear Parents and Carers

You may be aware that strike action has been announced by one national Teaching Union, the NEU. This strike action is related to national disputes with the Government about pay.

Strike action affecting Liskeard School has been called on the following days:

1st February
2nd March
15th March
16th March

The laws surrounding strike action mean that staff are not required to let the school know if they are planning to take part until the day of the strike; therefore, we will decide at the start of the day how many students we can safely have in school on that day. If there are any changes to the plans below, we will let you know as soon as possible.

With the first day of strike action taking place on 1st February, I am writing to inform you about our current plans:

  • Depending on our ability to open safely, we intend to be open for Year 11, 12 and 13 to provide the best continuity for students preparing for public examinations.
  • Due to the impact on staffing, the school will close on 1st February for most students in Year 7, 8, 9 and 10.

The ARC will be open for all students who currently attend this provision.

Students in affected Year groups will be expected to work at home on this day. Links to work and resources will be published on Satchel One (Show My Homework) https://www.satchelone.com/login.

If you are a critical worker and unable to make alternative childcare arrangements for the day, we may be able to offer a limited number of places to students in Year 7, 8, 9 and 10. Please could you fill in the form here to book a place in school: Strike Action - Request for a School Place - Wednesday 1st February 2023. Responses must be received by Monday, 30th January at 9.00 am to allow us time to plan for this provision. You will be contacted by email to confirm whether a place can be offered.

I will write to you again to confirm our plans for the other scheduled days of industrial action.

If you have any questions, please do contact us using our main enquiries email address: enquiries@liskeard.net

Yours faithfully
