Headteacher Letter to Parents/Carers - 09.06.23

Dear parents,

Aiming for excellence

We are continuing to set ambitious goals for excellence for all our students, providing the support and help needed on their journey through school. I am delighted that we continue to receive feedback about focused, attentive, polite and caring students across the school. We believe that every student has the right to learn without disruption or distraction because this allows learning to happen with fewer barriers. Do feel free to contact us if you have any feedback or would like to let us know if we can offer any further support.

Additional teaching time for Year 11 from September 2023

Thank you to those of you who attended our Year 10 GCSE success evening on 6th June - we want to support students and families on their journey through the process of their GCSEs as well as possible. Please look out for the slides from the evening which will be sent out soon. It was very helpful to consult with parents and receive feedback about plans for next year’s Year 11 students. We are delighted to be able to offer an extended school day to students until 4.15 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. We will offer additional teaching time in English, Maths and Science. We are offering this provision because we want every student to have the opportunity to excel. We know that current Year 10 students will benefit from the opportunity to catch up on missed learning from disruption to school during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, we want to put in structured support for students to further develop effective study habits, which will allow them to know and remember more over time.

Students will be expected to attend, however transport will be provided at no cost to families for students currently using Cornwall Council school transport services. We will also be offering additional teaching in English and Maths in new tutor groupings led by our existing specialist English and Maths teachers. We will continue to offer a range of support to ensure that students’ workload is manageable and wellbeing is supported. Your feedback has already allowed us to develop and improve our plans, so please continue to share your feedback and questions by emailing enquiries@liskeard.net

Uniform

We believe that high standards of appearance and uniform help to contribute to a strong school ethos. We are supporting students with regular reminders about correct uniform items. Please do take a moment to remind yourself of our guidance and we appreciate your support and collaboration. Don’t forget to have a look at our smart new Liskeard School skirt which will be required for students wearing skirts from September 2023.

Transition

We are excited to be welcoming students joining us next year to a range of transition events and visits to the school. I look forward to meeting as many students and parents as possible before the new term starts. If you or any prospective parent or family member would like to book a visit to see the wonderful work our students and staff do every day, please contact enquiries@liskeard.net.

Exams

We have been so pleased at the maturity, conscientiousness and focus demonstrated by students taking external examinations. We are approaching the final stages and wish them all the best over the coming weeks. We are looking forward to the Year 11 Prom on 7th July and Sixth Form Summer Ball on 13th July.

Yours faithfully
