UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge

Mr Downes presenting a Year 8 student with their certificate.

We would like to take this opportunity to share the fantastic achievements of our top set year 7 and 8 students in the recent UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge. The challenge was designed to assess their reasoning skills and problem-solving abilities rather than focusing solely on numeracy.

Our students faced a series of progressively challenging questions, with the later sections incorporating a fusion of geometry and algebra that even our top set year 11s would find thought-provoking. It is truly remarkable to witness the dedication and talent displayed by our young mathematicians.

We are thrilled to announce that our students performed admirably and attained a remarkable array of medals. The results speak for themselves: we secured 5 gold medals, 18 silver medals, and 31 bronze medals. Such accomplishments are exceptional by any standard, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to each and every student involved.

Unfortunately, we did not manage to capture many photographs of the certificates being presented. We can only apologise for this.

Once again, a resounding well done to all our year 7 and 8 students. They should take immense pride in their achievements and know that their hard work and dedication have truly paid off.
