The first stop on the itinerary was a visit to the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall Gurdwara, the largest gurdwara outside of India. Here, students learnt about the Sikh religion and culture, and explored how these traditions contribute to modern Britain today. They experienced the prayer room and had the opportunity to visit the Langar (free kitchen), which operates for much of the day and is run entirely by volunteers.

As part of the programme, students were set the challenge of researching, designing, and building their own wind turbines. The project encouraged them to explore renewable energy concepts while developing practical skills in design, construction, and problem-solving.

Working in partnership with Peninsula Dental, the school has been involved in the “Smarter Smiles” programme, a fantastic initiative designed to help children develop healthy habits and maintain bright smiles for the future.

MCS provides a clinically-backed, evidence-informed framework that includes a 30-45 minute online self-led course, broken into accessible 10-minute modules. The course equips students with practical tools to manage their menstrual health, reduce stigma, and build confidence. The trip included a visit to Kilmainham Gaol, where many leaders of Irish rebellions were imprisoned, giving students a strong insight into Ireland’s struggle for independence. Students also visited the National Museum of Ireland, viewing artefacts that supported their studies, as well as Dublin Castle and the 1798 Rebellion Memorial Park.

While the day is full of laughter and creativity 😄, it also carries an important message about individuality, acceptance, and tolerance ❤️🤝. Wearing odd socks is a simple but powerful way to celebrate what makes each of us unique.

We are delighted with the overall results and there are also individual subjects which have achieved some of the highest GCSE results recorded in the school under current GCSE frameworks.

It is exciting to see students thriving and succeeding, ready for their next steps into education, training, and employment. We are proud that so many have secured places at higher education destinations, and that a large number have gained their first-choice degree courses, apprenticeships, further training, and employment.

The New Hall buzzed with anticipation and was filled with a warm and supportive audience. From the very first note, it was clear that the evening would be something special. A fantastic variety of ensembles and soloists took to the stage, performing a diverse and exciting repertoire that had something for everyone.

Held throughout the school day, the event gave students the chance to perform in a relaxed and supportive setting, with a small audience made up of their peers and fellow performers. We were even thrilled to welcome back some of our Year 11 and Year 13 students, who returned to take part in the occasion.

This prestigious event is a highlight of the school calendar, recognising the outstanding contributions, academic excellence, and personal growth of LSCC students. Faculty staff nominated students for subject awards based on their dedication and performance throughout the year, while Heads of Years also selected students for special recognition, celebrating their individual progress, positive attitude, and commitment to school life.

Students made a stylish entrance, arriving in everything from Ferraris to tractors—each one dressed to impress and ready to mark the end of their time at Liskeard School and Community College.

Across the two days, students had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new school environment, meet their tutors and fellow tutor group members, and begin forming those all-important connections as they transition into secondary school life. They took part in team-building sessions led by our fantastic Sports Leaders, explored the layout of the school, and experienced taster lessons across a range of subjects.

Hosted this year at Liskeard School & Community College and Better’s Liskeard Leisure Centre, the Cornwall School Games give students the opportunity to showcase their abilities in multiple school sports and activities. Year-round routes to the games have a strong inclusion focus, and for many of these youngsters it was their first time representing their school.

We would like to invite you and your child to the final GCSE Success Evening on Tuesday 25^th March at 18:00, before the GCSEs start on 5^th May.

We will be sharing some helpful information and advice on how you can help your child at home in the build-up to GCSE exams in the summer of 2025. We will also have Heads of Faculty from English, Maths and Science to offer specific advice for the Core Subjects and there will be an opportunity afterwards to ask questions, if you have any. We’re really looking forward to seeing you and your child on Tuesday, 25^th March. 

Their term as prefects spans Year 10 into Year 11, allowing them to gain valuable leadership experience while supporting their peers and the wider school. They will step into their roles immediately, working closely with staff and students before handing over their duties ahead of their GCSE exams in the Spring term of Year 11.

This initiative, led by Liskeard Town Council, aims to develop a community-led Vision and Action Plan to shape the future of the town. The student council played a key role in sharing their insights, bringing fresh, forward-thinking ideas to the discussion.

During the challenge, students worked in teams to create an innovative mobile food outlet concept. They conducted market research, identified their target audience, curated a menu, developed a pricing strategy, and designed a prototype before presenting their ideas to a panel of university academics.

From tackling the Medical Workshop and Presenting Challenge to testing their reflexes in the Rapid Reactions and Pirelli Pitstop Challenge, these talented young women got a thrilling taste of the high-speed world of motorsport!

Go along to Home Park Stadium, PAFC on Sunday 9th March from 2 PM – 4:30 PM, for an informative and engaging event designed to help parents and young people make informed decisions about their future.

Challenge Week enriches the curriculum by offering a wide range of activities that go beyond the usual classroom experience. From thrilling outdoor adventures to creative workshops, every activity is designed to inspire personal growth and curiosity. There’s something for everyone, with options to suit all interests and budgets, including some free activities.

Mike led an engaging and insightful discussion about university life, the admissions process, and what it takes to succeed at such prestigious institutions. The conversation didn’t stop there – a small group of our Year 12 students had the opportunity for a more informal chat, diving deep into the specifics of applying to Oxbridge, Medicine, and beyond. 🏫✨

Attendees had the chance to explore subject options, speak with staff and current students, and get a real feel for what life at Liskeard Sixth Form is all about. The enthusiasm and curiosity on display made it clear that the future is bright for our incoming cohort.

During her visit, Ms. Gelderd joined a session with our Student Council members, sharing insights about her role, what a typical day as an MP looks like, and the journey to becoming one. 

Students asked some incredible questions, covering topics like the skills needed to be an MP, the highlights of the job, and even tackling tough policy issues – questions worthy of the media spotlight!
