Letter to Parents/Carers regarding Industrial Action - 2nd March 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

As the NEU and the government have not yet reached agreement in their pay dispute, the next day of planned strike action which I shared with you in my last letter is now expected to take place.

The dates I shared with you in our last letter remain unchanged, meaning that strike action affecting Liskeard School has been called on the following days: 2nd, 15th and 16th March 2023.

The laws surrounding strike action mean that staff are not required to let the school know if they are planning to take part until the day of the strike; therefore, we must decide at the start of the day how many students we can safely teach in school on that day. If there are any changes to the plans below, we will let you know as soon as possible.

With the next day of strike action on Thursday, 2nd March, I am writing to inform you about our current plans:

  • Depending on our ability to open safely, we intend to be open for Years 11, 12 and 13 to provide the best continuity for students preparing for public examinations. Attendance on this day for these year groups is compulsory, so please support your child to make the most of the curriculum provision on this day.
  • Due to the impact on staffing, the school will close on Thursday 2nd March for most students in Years 7, 8, 9 &10.

The ARC will be open for all students who currently attend this provision.

Students in affected year groups will be expected to work at home on this day. Links to work and resources will be published on Satchel One (some of you know this as ‘Show My Homework’) https://www.satchelone.com/login.

If you are a critical worker and unable to make alternative childcare arrangements for the day, we may be able to offer a limited number of places to students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Please could you fill in the form here to book a place in school: Strike Action - Request for a School Place - Thursday 2nd March 2023

Responses must be received by Tuesday, 28th February, at 9.00 am to allow us time to plan for this provision. You will be contacted by email to confirm whether a place can be offered.

I will write to you again to confirm our plans for the future days of planned industrial action:15th and 16th March.
If you have any questions, please do contact us using our main enquiries email address: enquiries@liskeard.net

Yours faithfully
