Headteacher Letter to Parents/Carers - 12.03.24

Dear parents, carers and families

I continue to be delighted with the exceptional politeness, positivity and dedication of our school community. It is wonderful to be able to receive and share so many pieces of positive feedback on our students’ behaviour and interactions with others in the community – please do keep sharing feedback with us.

Please see a number of updates and important dates:

Parent Information Evening
I am very pleased to invite you to attend our next regular Parent and Carer Information Evening scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 19th March, from 18.00–19.30 pm in the Library.

I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made towards our aspiration of academic excellence for all of our students. I would like to provide you with an up-date on the work we have done so far and to share with you our strategic aims for the rest of the academic year.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback. The presentation will be followed by an informal opportunity to meet with me and members of the Senior Leadership Team over light refreshments.

In order for us to cater for the event appropriately, I would be very grateful if you would let us know if you would like to attend by filling in this quick and simple online form: https://forms.office.com/e/Pkwa83ZYFf

Excellent Attendance
Attendance matters! We want everyone to maximise their success by attending school every day. Please read the information below carefully and if there is anything we can do to support your child’s attendance, please get in touch with us by emailing attendance@liskeard.net.

A reminder regarding absence processes: If your child is absent from school, please can you call the school every day of their absence before 9.15 am. Please leave a message detailing why specifically they are unable to attend. Please can we also ask you to let us know of any medical/orthodontist appointments in advance. This helps save us having to make unnecessary phone calls home.

Please note: If your child is absent from school without authorisation, you will be committing an offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £60 if paid within 21 days or £120 if paid after this, but within 28 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice may result in legal action. Absence not authorised by the school may result in a prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court under Section 444(1) or Section 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996, leading to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a custodial sentence. Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court.

Term Dates
The last day of term will be Thursday, 28th March, and we welcome students back to school after the Easter Holidays on Monday, 15th April 2024.

Yours faithfully
